What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Materials Outside Sales position at The Strait & Lamp Group (multiple locations)?
The Strait & Lamp Group is a building material supplier with six locations around central Ohio. We are currently seeking candidates to fill several open sales positions within our company.
Compensation: base salary plus monthly commission based on sales numbers.
- Lumber Sales - Products include lumber, windows, doors, trusses, wall panels, roofing, decking, siding, and other building materials.
- Millwork Sales - Products include interior trim, prehung door units and custom doors
Job Purpose: To sell products and assist customers
Scope of Responsibilities: Visits job sites and converses with customers; Provides takeoffs/quotes; Writes orders; Handles special orders; Works with dispatcher to schedule deliveries; Prospects new customers; May assist in training and developing of new employees; May make small deliveries; Checks foundations; Helps with budgets; Attends sales meetings; Attends builder functions; Attends seminars when needed; Collects on accounts; Assists with annual inventory
Minimum Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Knowledge, Skill, Training, Licenses, Experience and/or Abilities:
· 1-3 Years of experience in residential/commercial building industry
· 1-3 Years of experience in sales
· Some product knowledge required
· Strong organizational skills required
· Candidate must be detail oriented and maintain a high level of accuracy
· Basic math skills are required
· Ability to read and write
· Candidate must have excellent customer relations abilities
· Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills
Equipment/Software/Technology used:
· Frequent use of Windows P.C.
· Frequent use of Email (Microsoft Outlook)
· Frequent use of printers/fax machine/copier/calculator/phone system
· Frequent use of cellular phone
· Frequent use of BisTrack
· Frequent use of company vehicle
· Frequent use of scales and span charts
· Frequent use of tape measure
Essential physical and mental functions:
· Candidate must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
· Candidate must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely
· Decent typing speed preferred
· Candidate must be able to climb in and out of vehicle
· Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Combination of indoor, temperature controlled environment and outdoor weather including cold, heat, rain, snow, ice, wind, etc. and possibly driving in such weather
Safety Requirements:
All employees are expected to adhere to the safety regulations set forth by OSHA and company policies. This may include, but is not limited to; eye protection in plants, hardhats outdoors, seat belts worn in all company vehicles, limited cell phone use and regular safety training.
Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties as needed.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
