What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIRECTOR OF SECURITY position at The Strat (Las Vegas, NV)?
Summary: Responsible for the operational direction, administration, and coordination of all activities of the Security department. Supervise assigned staff in accordance with the departmental table of organization and works with interdepartmental personnel and department management to ensure the operational effectiveness of the department’s cost of operations, performance standards, and guest experiences. Ensures standards of service are met. Also performs the duties of a Security Operations Shift Manager on the assigned shift. Reports to the property General Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, developing, and disciplining department management staff and all Security department staff on the assigned shift
- Develops and implements operational plans for the department. Devises strategies to improve service.
- Responsible for monitoring and controlling labor within the department. Ensures adequate security coverage througout the property based on business demands
- Works on special projects as assigned by the Corporate Vice President of Security & Surveillance and/or the property General Manager
- Assists property General Manager and Corporate Vice President of Security & Surveillance with formulating the annual operating budgets for the operation; development and implementation of action plans to achieve established departmental goals
- Ensure officers on all shifts remain up to date with all required departmental training; provide notification to officers of upcoming expiration dates of training certifications
- Reviews departmental reports, addressing potential conflicts and/or misinformation
- Authorizes security clearance and/or access to sensitive areas of the property
- Assist guests and employees with escalated security questions, concerns, or complaints
- Maintains good working relationships with various members of the business community (i.e., Nevada Gaming Commission, Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, etc.)
- Routinely tours and inspects the property, identifying potential safety hazards, and reporting same to the appropriate person, for proper resolution
- Provide outstanding guest service in a timely manner to both guests and fellow team members that meets the company's guest service culture standards
- Ensure compliance with all applicable gaming laws and company internal controls, policies and procedures, Title 31, and federal regulations, as they apply to the position
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5 years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous experience leading training sessions
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, state laws, local ordinances, and procedure manuals.
- Able to effectively write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to maintain composure and management ability during crisis
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Strong analytical abilities required, including the ability to read and interpert operating statements
- Proven successful experience maintaining appropriate labor costs
- Proven experience providing high level of guest service
- Working knowledge of Microsoft operating system and applications preferred
- Must be at least 21 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or Business Administration or related area from a college or university preferred
- Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal
- Obtain and maintain all work cards as required by the company
- Verify right to work in the United States
