The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a few dynamic First Mates to help lead our aquatic crew as the Community Pool Managers at both The Berkeley Heights Community Pool or Springfield Community Pool Locations. If you have experience and a passion working in aquatics, you may be the right candidate for this role.


The Summit Area YMCA operates two seasonal Outdoor Pool Facilities, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA, Located at 59 Locust Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ and The Springfield Community Pool, located at 44 Morrison Road, Springfield, NJ 07081.


Working under the direction of the Facility Director, the Manager helps develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused SAY aquatic programs for the outdoor pools. The Pool Manager creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Y policies and procedures.


This position is seasonal full time position, 40 hours each week, which may includes nights and weekends. Wages are competitive, starting $20.00/hour, based on experience. The active Outdoor Pool season runs from Late May - Early September with some pre and post season work/ trainings.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Facility Director in directing and supervising program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Helps to establish new program activities and expands program within the SAY and the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and supervising aquatics staff and volunteers.
  • Assists in reviewing and evaluating staff performance. Helps develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Works as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor throughout the season and when necessary for coverage.
  • Work with Facility Director to ensure compliance in high standards of safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies. Models, promotes and maintains a Culture of Safety which includes but is not limited to in-service trainings, weekly fitness & skills assessments, drills etc.
  • Assists in creating and scheduling and coordinating swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Helps compile program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Assists the Facility Director with submission of accurate employee timesheets when needed.
  • As an Ambassador for the Y, communicates to members, volunteers, and the general public that the Y is the nation’s leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility



Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years’ experience in a Supervisory role.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21
  • Certified American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard (valid certification)
  • Full time availability for during the active pool season, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have ability to work at both community pool locations and travel independently between each daily if needed.
