Job Summary
The Activity Assistant assumes the leadership of the Activity Department in the absence of the Activity Director. The Activity Assistant assist with the development and implementation of an activity program designed to meet the activity needs and interests of each individual resident. The Activity Assistant works as a member of a team under the direction of the Activity Director.
Education
Must have a high school diploma
Qualifications
1. Must be able to read and write with good grammar skills.
2. Is self-motivated and able to take the initiative to complete duties as specified and directed by the Activity Director.
3. Possesses a valid driver’s license.
4. Demonstrates leadership and managerial ability
5. Has the ability to organize, plan and supervise the Activity Department in coordination with the Activity Director
6. Demonstrates the ability to lead the Activity Department in a cost effective professional manner
7. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships and works well with the general public.
8. Is capable of implementing changes as determined by the Activity Director
9. Is of good emotional, mental and physical health having sound judgment and high professional standards.
10. Is courteous in working with residents, families and employees.
11. Maintains a neat, well-groomed and professional appearance at all times.
12. Has a desire to work with the geriatric clientele as well as residents of any age and their current prospective activity and interest needs.
13. Must be willing to be in and/or available to the facility weekends as well as weekdays.
14. Must demonstrate ability to follow policies, procedures, practices and direction without the direct supervision of the Activity Director.
15. Must demonstrate the ability to function as a cooperative team member with all disciplines in the facility.
16. Must have a pre-employment and an annual Tuberculosis screening examination as required by the state the Activity Assistant is employed.
Responsibilities
The Activity Assistant works with the Activity Director to assure the following responsibilities are accomplished. This list is only partial and should not be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks and responsibilities.
1. Assists the Activity Director in completing activity assessments as assigned.
2. Assists the Activity Director in identifying problems/needs of residents and in developing an activity plan, as requested by the Activity Director.
3. Participates in resident care plan conferences as requested by Activity Director, and represents the Activity Director at these conferences in the absence of the Director.
4. Has a working knowledge of resident’s rights and is an advocate for the resident.
5. Has a working knowledge of policies within the Activity Department and throughout the facility, and abides by these policies.
6. Completes documentation as assigned by the Activity Director in a timely and professional manner.
7. Communicates with Department Heads and other staff when necessary to insure full implementation of activity program.
8. Keeps confidential any and all information regarding the residents personal and clinical records.
9. Provides assistance to the Resident’s Council as requested.
10. Assists the residents in transporting to and from activities as needed.
11. Conducts activities with residents, both groups and one-one individual basis as scheduled by the Activity Director
12. Provides supervision of Volunteers as requested by the Activity Director
13. Runs errands for the Activity Director as requested
14. Participates in the community-oriented events and special marketing projects as requested by the Activity Director
15. Recruits, trains and orients volunteers as requested by the Activity Director
16. Maintains confidentiality, adhering to established policies and confidentiality in regards to residents, employees, and family members.
17. Attends required staff in-services, and orientations as requested by the Activity Director.
18. Keeps supplies organized in the Activity Department.
19. Assists the Activity Director in coordinating fundraisers.
20. Provides assistance to residents for individual projects, and supervision of the activity room while residents are present and working on projects.
21. Assists the Activity Director in producing the monthly calendar.
22. Delivers mail to residents and keeps confidential the content of mail that is opened for residents at the residents request.
23. Assists in decorating the facility for seasonal functions
24. Other duties as assigned by the Activity Director or Administrator
25. Have the ability to learn computer systems, system applications and related office equipment.
26. Promotes effective work relationships with the administrator, medical staff, personnel, volunteers, agencies, and management staff affiliated with the facility.
27. Attends and participates in facility meetings.
28. Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement Program
29. Participates in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement Program
30. Reports immediately to supervisor and administrator situations involving abuse, neglect, or suspicion of a crime.
31. Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, HIPAA Standard, and Computer Usage Agreement.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $10.50 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 16 per week
