What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEACHING ASSISTANT, TRIAD - Part Time position at The Summit School Inc?
The Triad Academy division of Summit School is dedicated to meeting the academic needs of bright students diagnosed with dyslexia or a related written language learning difference. This position involves responsibility for supporting teachers in delivering core content within an integrated, experientially based curriculum. Active collaboration with lead teachers and teaching assistants in the Summit Lower School is also required. Teaching assistants teach a section of Language Tutorial remediation, prepare materials for instruction, support classroom differentiation through small group support, draft weekly parent communication materials, assist with delivery of curriculum in the classroom, help maintain classroom organization, prepare student snacks, and serve in a supervisory capacity during recess and other times throughout the day.
Quality of mind, a passion for young children, and a commitment to the education of dyslexic students is essential. An understanding of best practices in the field of remediation of language based learning differences is strongly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed an AOGPE Associate level training and practicum in the Orton-Gillingham approach to learning. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively within and across divisions and to communicate effectively with parents. Specific qualifications include:
An orientation toward progressive philosophy and an experiential approach to learning.
A bachelor's degree, at a minimum, preferably formal training in elementary education or special education.
Classroom Experience working with elementary age or dyslexic students is strongly desired.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Technology skills, including the ability to produce and publish weekly newsletters
