We are currently seeking a local government reporter to cover the municipal and school district beats, as well as take in-depth looks at trends and features in the area.
We cover communities in Hershey, Hummelstown and Palmyra. While other newspapers are shrinking and reducing their coverage, The Sun is one of the largest weekly newspapers in the state and is growing.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have writing experience and some news reporting experience is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate must be a hard-working, energetic, self-starter with plenty of story ideas ranging from light, fun features to serious pieces about how taxpayer money is spent. Will not consider any story to be too big or too small and be enthusiastic about sharing the news with readers both in print and online.
Requirements for the position will include coverage of week-day municipal meetings (generally Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings) and writing a comprehensive, in-depth news story for publication in that week's issue. Those meetings often generate leads, which the reporter could develop into a more in-depth news or feature story.
