What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maitre d' position at The Surf Lodge?
MAITRE D’
Technical Position Expectations:
- Recruiting: The Restaurant Maitre D is responsible for sourcing, interviewing, and hiring all positions related to the Restaurant Door, including but not limited to Restaurant Hosts.
- Training: The Restaurant Maitre D is responsible for constructing and executing all training programs as they relate to the Restaurant Door positions, including but not limited to: maintaining position descriptions, editing/updating floor plans, drafting guides for Reservations/Booking Platforms (Resy/OT, TripleSeat, etc), and creating/updating department specific opening/running/closing duties for Restaurant Door positions.
- Scheduling: The Restaurant Maitre D is responsible for planning and publishing all schedules as they relate to the Restaurant Door positions, including training schedules and weekly shift schedules.
- Reservation Platform Service Settings: The Restaurant Maitre D is responsible for maintaining and updating Service Settings on the reservations platform, including but not limited to: making adjustments to table availability, opening/closing shifts, adding/updating special booking events/ticketed events, and monitoring guest communications.
- Shift Execution: The Restaurant Maitre D is the main point of contact and anchor for the Restaurant Door. Shift Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: plotting the floor plan based on current reservations; collecting and communicating reservation notes as they relate to VIPs, special occasions, restrictions, and guest requests; managing the Restaurant Door team throughout the shift, including but not limited to directing guest seating and communicating table needs with FOH management team; alerting the culinary team to relevant reservation notes, VIPs, and menu counts; managing Restaurant Door labor, including making cuts to relevant door positions; sending Start of Shift (SOS) and End of Night (EON) reports to FOH and BOH leadership.
- Inventory: The Restaurant Maitre D is responsible for communicating inventory needs as they relate to the Restaurant Door, including but not limited to: menus, menu holders, POS thermal paper, and uniforms.
Hours:
- The Restaurant Maitre D role is a full-time position, which requires fully dedicating all business time to executing the above responsibilities and tasks. This position is not eligible for overtime pay should 40 hours per week be exceeded.
