Job Description:
Position Summary
Scheduling and pre-creating all surgeries and tests ordered by surgeons during their clinics. Instructing patients in pre- surgical and pre-test preparation. Briefly helping patients understand financial responsibilities and how insurance deductibles and coinsurance work. Recording all facility-based charges. Maintaining a positive attitude and good working relationship with patients, doctors, coworkers, and facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Scheduling and pre-certing surgeries, maintaining physicians’ surgical schedules in Outlook and ECW
- Scheduling and pre-certing all tests ordered by physician patients about pre-surgery and pretest protocols
- Instruct patients about financial responsibilities, including deductibles and coinsurance and ask for payment towards deductible.
- Reschedule patients’ surgeries and tests as needed and make sure all information in computer is correct and up to date
- Making sure pre-cert information gets to facilities prior to scheduled time
- Get patients a work excuse and take FMLA papers to give to nurse.
- Reconcile weekly reports received from surgical facilities of surgeries against surgeries recorded on surgeons Outlook calendars.
- Receive daily or weekly emails or correspondence from physicians about charges to be entered that where done out of clinic.
- Enter new hospital patients in eCW and verify and input their insurance and insurance eligibility information
- Other duties as needed to make the clinic functional
Requirements and Qualifications
- General and Vascular Surgery Procedures
- Insurance, insurance websites, how to get and read patient eligibility,
- Basic knowledge of ICD and CPT codes
- Medical Terminology and HIPPA
- EMR, Data entry, faxing, emailing, copying, texting, and scanning
- Answering phones
- Creating forms in Microsoft Word
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Good communication skills including good verbal and written skills.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent attention to accuracy
- Team player that will back up fellow coworkers if their work overflows to facilitate keeping the patient and doctor as the top priorities
- Requires sensitivity and diplomacy as we are working with people who are dealing with the emotional stress of surgery and the financial stress of added expenses and possibly the stress and fear of what their diagnosis will be and how they will deal with that.
- Self-starter who thinks ahead and takes the needed and necessary action for the good of the patient
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
Experience: 2 years medical clinic experience: general and vascular surgery scheduling experience preferred.
