Position Summary:
The Surgical Institute of Central Florida is seeking a compassionate and skilled Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse to join our team. This position is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures in our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC). The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, a patient-centered approach, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Preoperative Care:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and review medical histories prior to surgery.
- Educate patients on surgical procedures, anesthesia, and post-operative expectations.
- Administer preoperative medications and ensure all required documentation and consents are completed accurately.
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers and surgeons to ensure patient readiness for surgery.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) within the SIS Complete system.
Postoperative Care (PACU):
- Provide immediate post-anesthesia care, closely monitoring patients' vital signs, pain levels, and overall recovery progress.
- Implement appropriate pain management strategies and administer medications as ordered.
- Monitor for post-operative complications, responding promptly to any adverse events and notifying physicians as necessary.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care, medication instructions, and follow-up guidelines.
- Ensure a smooth transition of care by coordinating patient discharge and post-surgical instructions.
Patient Advocacy and Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and their families, providing compassionate and clear communication.
- Address patient concerns promptly and ensure a positive and reassuring surgical experience.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient outcomes and streamline care delivery.
General Duties:
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in managing inventory, including ordering and restocking necessary medical supplies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure & Certification:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida (required).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a preoperative, PACU, critical care, or perioperative nursing setting (preferred).
- Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) or outpatient surgical environment (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of anesthesia recovery protocols and pain management strategies.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly pay: $36 - $47/hour (based on experience).
- Full-time position with a set schedule.
