We are looking for a Director of Nursing (DON) to join our leadership team and help guide our nursing department towards excellence in patient care. This role will play a critical leadership role in assisting our new ambulatory surgery center through its AAAHC accreditation process.
Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) will oversee the daily operations of the nursing department, ensuring that patient care is delivered at the highest standard. In addition to general nursing leadership, the DON will need to cover in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Operating Room (OR) as necessary, ensuring the smooth operation of these areas. The DON will also take a key role in supporting our new ambulatory surgery center through its AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) accreditation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of nursing professionals across various departments, ensuring effective recruitment, retention, and development of nursing staff.
- Oversee nursing operations, including staffing, budgeting, and resource management, ensuring that all areas function seamlessly and efficiently.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and other leaders to implement policies, procedures, and best practices to promote patient care and nursing excellence.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and regulatory requirements related to nursing practice and patient care, including assisting in the preparation and successful completion of AAAHC accreditation for the ambulatory surgery center.
- Monitor quality indicators, patient outcomes, and safety metrics in the PACU and OR, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Act as a hands-on leader, covering in the PACU and OR as needed to support staffing needs and maintain high standards of patient care during surgeries and recovery periods.
- Develop and implement educational programs to promote staff professional development and continuing education.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in patient care, safety, and staff satisfaction.
- Advocate for both patients and nursing staff to create a safe, supportive, and efficient healthcare environment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Hawaii.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of progressive nursing leadership experience, with at least 1 year in management or director role. Experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting and with AAAHC accreditation is preferred.
- Certifications: Certification in Nursing Administration (NE-BC) or similar preferred.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and complex projects. Knowledge of ambulatory surgery center operations, PACU and OR standards, and regulatory requirements for AAAHC accreditation.
