Prevention Counselor (Part-Time, 10-12 Weeks)
Position Overview
The T.R.I.G.G.E.R. Project is seeking dedicated and compassionate Prevention Counselors to support our mission of preventing youth gun violence through a public health and positive youth development approach. Prevention Counselors will work directly with youth participants, providing mentorship, facilitating prevention-focused activities, and fostering a safe and engaging environment.
This is a part-time, 10-12-week position paying $20-25 per hour. Candidates should have experience working with youth, alignment with our public health approach to gun violence prevention, and a commitment to creating safe spaces for young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with youth and provide mentorship, guidance, and support.
- Facilitate prevention-focused programming, including workshops, discussions, and activities designed to empower youth with skills in leadership, conflict resolution, and economic empowerment.
- Support trauma-informed, healing-centered engagement strategies to ensure youth feel heard, valued, and supported.
- Assist with daily programming logistics, including attendance tracking, behavioral support, and ensuring program safety.
- Serve as a role model and advocate for youth, reinforcing positive behavior and community engagement.
- Communicate effectively with The T.R.I.G.G.E.R. Project’s leadership team to identify challenges, successes, and areas for improvement within programming.
- Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards when empathetically working with youth and families.

Qualifications
- Experience working with youth, particularly those impacted by systemic inequities and community violence.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and emotional regulation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other team members, youth, and community partners.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, public health approaches to violence prevention, and positive youth development is preferred.
- Must pass a background check and complete necessary training before start date.
