Job Summary: The Busser/Runner/Barback position at The Tavern offers the opportunity to work as a Server Assistant, assisting servers and bartenders during our lunch, dinner, and brunch service. Our Server Assistants will be expected to cross train in all areas of service with the anticipation of growing into server or bartender role. The Tavern is an upscale farm-to-table full service restaurant offering seasonal ingredients that are locally sourced from our beautiful Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio farmland. Our menu changes regularly and we run special feature dishes often. The food is prepared in a brand new state of the art kitchen and served in a beautifully restored 170 year old building. Responsibilities:
Inventory Management: Assist in the monitoring and management of bar inventory, including liquor, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and other supplies. Keep track of stock levels and promptly communicate needs to the bartenders and management.
Stocking and Preparation: Prepare and restock items required for the bar, such as ice, fruit garnishes, straws, napkins, and utensils, to ensure smooth service. Assist in prepping ingredients for cocktails, ensuring they are readily available for the bartenders.
Equipment Maintenance: Keep bar tools, glassware, and equipment clean and organized, ready for immediate use. Ensure the bar area remains clutter-free and visually appealing at all times.
Assisting Bartenders: Provide timely support to bartenders by fetching and delivering ingredients, spirits, and mixers as needed. Assist in setting up and breaking down the bar stations before and after service.
Glassware Care: Collect used glassware, wash, and polish it to maintain a steady supply of clean and polished glasses for drinks. Ensure each type of glass is stored appropriately to prevent breakage.
Beverage Presentation: Assist in garnishing drinks and ensuring they are presented beautifully before being served to guests. Pay attention to detail to maintain the high visual and quality standards of the bar.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Participate in maintaining cleanliness throughout the bar area, including wiping surfaces, sweeping, and emptying trash. Support the bar team in adhering to health and safety standards.
Collaboration:Work closely with bartenders, servers, and management to ensure a smooth and efficient bar operation. Communicate effectively to fulfill bar-related requests in a timely manner.
Guest Experience Enhancement: Contribute to creating a positive atmosphere for guests by providing timely and efficient service support. Be attentive to guests' needs and communicate any special requests to the bartenders.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a barback or similar role in a high-end or upscale restaurant or bar is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to lift heavy kegs, crates, and other bar-related supplies.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Neat grooming and a polished, professional appearance.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
