What are the responsibilities and job description for the Daycare Same Day Substitute position at The Teachers For Tomorrow?
Job Description
Same Day Sub Superhero!
The Same Day Subs program is a unique opportunity for early childhood substitutes to help meet the growing need for last minute shifts in Early Childhood Centers in their area. This role is ideal for those who can commit to working 3-5 days per week, have flexibility in their schedule, and are passionate about providing quality early childhood education! Substitutes in the Same Day Subs program will be notified of their assigned shifts on the morning of each available day, filling critical staffing needs at our partner centers and bringing them some peace of mind in a chaotic time.
Responsibilities:
Weekly Commitment: Availability for the following week must be submitted by Thursday of the current week. This allows for efficient planning and coverage for the week. If availability changes, please communicate that change with the Placement Coordinator as soon as possible. Please note that you will need to choose a new day in order to meet the 24-hour minimum for the week. PTO or any planned time off should be communicated to the Placement Coordinator by that Thursday deadline as well.
Commitment to Shifts: Priority and Same Day shifts could be anywhere within a 25 mile radius from your home but the Placement Coordinator will do everything possible to assign you to the shifts closest to your home. If there are no shifts nearby for the day, shifts outside of the radius may be offered, however you have no obligation to accept shifts outside of the 25 mile radius unless you would like to.
Shift Assignments: Shifts will be assigned between 7:00-9:00 AM, and substitutes must be ready to accept assignments during that time. If no shifts are available by 9:00 AM, substitutes are free for the day but may still be contacted if additional shifts arise later. This does not mean you are on call and there is no penalty for not accepting shifts after 9:00 AM if plans have already been made.
Call-out Policy: If a substitute is unable to work on a day they committed to picking up a last minute shift, they must call out by 6 AM before daily placements begin. Late call-outs or not actually being available on days they indicated they were available will result in 2 points instead of 1.
Qualifications:
Flexibility and reliability in working assigned day of or priority shifts on agreed upon day.
Reliable personal transportation within a 25-mile radius.
Willingness to help in any childcare center, with any child between the ages of 0-6 years old.
Adaptability and a positive attitude, ready to work with center staff that may be feeling overwhelmed or stressed out.
If a current Substitute, you must be in good standing with Performance and Attendance.
Incentives:
Earn an extra $1/hour from base pay.
Same Day Substitutes receive priority shift assignments over general substitutes on day-of shifts. Same Day Substitutes will also receive priority placement during the summers and holidays when shift requests may be lower.
Note: Being a substitute is hard and getting assigned to shifts may not be for everyone, if at any point a same day sub would like to return to pre-scheduling their shifts, we ask they give a 1 week notice to the TFT management team and finish out their agreed upon available days and then they are free to return to the general substitute pool at any time. Base pay would return to standard pay after final “same day sub” shift.
