What you need to know
- The primary TTI duty station for the employee will be at the TTI Headquarters location in Bryan, TX. It is envisioned that the employee will work in the office 5 days a week. The flexibility of a hybrid remote option with a minimum of two days in office at the primary duty station in compliance with the guidelines specified in the TTI Alternate Work Location (AWL) Arrangements will be considered during the hiring process.
- The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Summary
The Traffic Operations & Roadway Safety Division of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) is looking for a passionate researcher to join our team at our headquarters in Bryan, Texas. As a member of the Operations & Roadway Safety Division, the candidate will conduct research for our clients, which include federal, state, and local government agencies, transportation industries, and non-governmental organizations. The candidate will be assigned to the Roadway Safety Program within the Division based on their interest in the safety of automated, connected, and electric vehicles and vulnerable road users and data collection, as well as the analysis of crash and surrogate safety measures data using statistical, spatial, and econometric models and machine learning tools including text analytics. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate and work with other programs within the division, such as Work Zone and Dynamic Signs, Roadway Design, and Signs and Markings, as well as other programs and divisions at TTI, such as the Center for Transportation Safety. There will also be opportunities to join interdisciplinary teams across TTI and TAMU systems.
With guidance from senior researchers, the candidate is expected to serve as Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, or contribute as a significant lead in research and proposal development. The successful candidate will have a strong background, a proven research record, and an understanding of quality and unbiased research principles. Specific duties include reviewing literature, planning research activities, coordinating and collecting data, analyzing data, writing reports, preparing and delivering presentations, writing journal articles, and depending on qualification, and preparing proposals. Supervision of staff and students is expected, along with travel to research locations or conferences, overnight travel, and field data collection. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Other duties will be performed as required.
The Roadway Safety Program focuses on roadway design safety, strongly emphasizing data collection and analytics using statistical, spatial, and econometric models and machine learning tools. Traditionally, projects in this program have focused on developing crash modification factors (CMFs) and safety performance functions, safety effects of pavement marking and markers, and work zone CMFs. Recently, the program has been involved in addressing safety impacts of automated vehicles, vulnerable road user safety, effects of roadway and roadside designs and operations on crash frequency and severity among others.
