Night Watchman/Security

The Thacher School is seeking motivated and experienced individuals with broad expertise in security to join the Maintenance team as a Night Watchman/Security. The successful candidate will possess the following:

Basic Function:

 Provides security for the school faculty and staff, students, buildings and property through patrol of school buildings and building perimeters, including parking lots, to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage and to provide for general building security; does related work as required.

Duties to include:

 Periodically monitors a reporting system designed to detect security issues in school

facilities.

 Makes recommendations to correct security issues once identified.

 Participates in providing security for all occupants of school buildings and grounds.

 Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school campus and buildings and/or

loitering on school grounds.

 Informs Dean of Students and direct supervisor about student concerns

 Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate; maintain security of assigned areas

according to established guidelines.

 Prepares reports and assists in special assignments as directed.

 Perform related duties as assigned

Knowledge and Abilities:

 Good knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in establishing

and maintaining building security.

 Skill in observing and detecting unusual occurrences or behavior.

 Initiative, sound judgment, tact, courtesy.

 Good knowledge of police and security techniques.

Ability to:

 Ability to maintain records and prepare written reports.

 Work independently and as a group.

 Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

 Observe and report need for maintenance and repair.

 Understand and follow oral and written directions.

 Ability to read, write and follow written directions.

 Is considerate, courteous, and treats others with respect.

 Ability to understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and

maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

 Must be able to understand Standing Night Order and complete nightly reports.

 Must check and respond to emails during every shift.

Other Requirements

A current (or ability to obtain) California driver license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to transport students in school-owned vehicles. A criminal background check must be successfully completed before employment can begin. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Able to do required amounts of walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching.

Salary Range

Schedule:

This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position. Work hours are on an as needed basis. Shifts are generally Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 pm to 1:00 am, and Friday and Saturday, 9:30 pm to 4:00 am. There will be special occasions that fall outside these hours. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays on occasion as needed.
