Material Handler Shipping Lead should master all Material Handler 3 responsibilities and prove to be efficient in equipment operation and daily transaction codes within the department. Shipping Lead is responsible for the handling of tile and tile related products in a variety of applications to distribute quality products to The Tile Shop stores and their customers as well as assisting the Shipping Supervisor in daily operations as needed under their direction. Material handlers must maintain a clean, neat, safe and organized work area while having the ability to manually move and lift 50 lbs. regularly and frequently move and lift to or over 100 lbs. Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to competently perform all start of shift responsibilities such as printing pick tickets, correcting order allocation issues, print necessary pallet tags and box stickers.
- Assign tasks and job duties at the beginning of the shift and throughout the day as needed.
- Communicate effectively with members of the department and those in other departments.
- Able to assist with and/or conduct the start of shift meetings in a professional manner.
- Teach, coach and train material handlers in the different operations within the department.
- Identify training opportunities and mentor Material Handlers to improve skills.
- Has the ability to use computer programs for training purposes without assistance and can assist others.
- Work with the supervisor to take appropriate corrective action when established procedures are not followed and participate in disciplinary action when needed.
- Assist stores with product inquiries, customer service issues and add on requests in a timely fashion.
- Use wireless Radio Frequency (RF) device or desktop computer to perform department related T-Codes, which include but are not limited to allocation, pull, put away, ship confirm, and inventory lookup.
- Select pick ticket to determine items to be picked, packed, palletized or shipped.
- Convey pallets, boxes and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets or crates.
- Manually lift, move, sort, carry or place boxes and items onto/off pallets and into/out of crates.
- Ensures inventory accuracy for item or location being picked, packed, palletized, shipped or put away to or from the bin location.
- Ability to have versatility in all categories and can perform all functions in each category at a high level
- Participates in cycle counting program as needed.
- Understand and can perform all functions within the LTL and/or Ecomm categories and can functionally and professionally guide others
- Can lead the team out on the floor with clear and concise direction
- Can utilize standard procedure/transactions for inventory movement and transactions
- Correctly use a variety of equipment including but not limited to sit-down forklift, Reach Truck, Order Picker, automatic wrapping machine, 2-wheeled cart, and powered and non-powered pallet jacks.
- Inspect, use, and maintain equipment in good working order.
- Ensure that all pallets and items are clearly and accurately labeled, whether outbound to customers or returning to bin location.
- Securely build and wrap pallets and crates in a timely fashion.
- Influence and maintain a positive clean, safe and organized work environment.
- Safely and properly load and unload trucks by hand and/or using a sit-down forklift or pallet jack.
- Work in other departments as needed.
- Meet scheduled attendance requirements; may work long hours which might include nights and weekends when necessary to reach goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 years previous warehouse/distribution experience.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Strong work ethic.
- Sit-down Forklift, reach truck, and order picker experience required. Current certification or ability to be certified within 30 days of start date.
- Basic organizational, mathematical, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of proper safety measures.
- Ability to manually move and lift 50 lbs. regularly and frequently up to and over 100 lbs.
- Ability to work at varying heights.
- Ability to stand frequently as well as the ability to walk, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to work independently or with a group.
- Ability to move trailers around with a yard dog/switcher restricted to the complex
