Middle School Science Teacher
The Tome School is seeking a candidate for the full-time role of Middle School Science Teacher. Qualified candidates should have the capacity to teach honors level science courses to both 6th and 8th grade students. Subjects will cover the core physical sciences at the younger grade while the upper grade will provide a foundational understanding of both chemistry and physics. Focus areas include matter, motion, forces, energy and reactions. The ideal candidate will develop and incorporate innovative lesson that encourage and include hands-on understanding of complex subject matters, when appropriate. Qualified candidates should have: (1) solid knowledge and understanding of higher level math principles, (2) the capacity to teach honors and AP level courses to students, and (3) a willingness to take responsibility for student progress.
The ideal candidate has a knowledge of current teaching methods, has excellent communication skills, and is seeking a community of learners that share our values of respect, responsibility and honesty.
Responsibilities
- Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning
- Create and distribute educational content (notes, summaries, assignments etc.)
- Assess and record students’ progress and provide grades and feedback
- Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom
- Collaborate with other teachers, parents and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings
- Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events
- Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences etc.
