Under general supervision, this position provides a safe and fun environment for children in the Fieldhouse Day Camp program through the supervision of designated groups and may serve as a designated bus driver if necessary and if trained to do so. 

 *This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Town’s policies*

  • Provides onsite supervision of assigned campers and Junior Counselors through enforcement of program rules and safety regulations.  
  • Implements a variety of age appropriate recreational and educational activities.  
  • Maintains a safe and positive environment for all programs, activities and excursions.  
  • Maintains the schedule for, and administration, when necessary, of medications to children in accordance with State regulations and parental instructions.  
  • Ensures all facility, venue, and building equipment is in proper working order to maintain safe conditions for participants and staff. 
  • Provides safe transportation for children to and from the facility, schools, and excursions by operating a fourteen- (14) passenger bus (training provided). 
  • Participates in and serves as a role model throughout daily camp activities.  
  • Assists in the resolution of conflicts and or violations of camp rules and regulations.  
  • Prepares and analyzes reports and feedback to assess community needs; evaluates industry trends and target markets to benchmark facility operations. 
  • Provides first aid in accordance with training to injured participants or staff; alerts supervisor(s) and completes necessary reports in a timely manner.  
  • Complies with all State Licensure requirements for Day Camp Counselors.   
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 


 

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered. 

 

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age for the Day Camp Counselor Sr. position. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age for the Driver position. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by a minimum of four hundred sixty (460) hours of satisfactory and verifiable experience working directly with school aged children. 

 

Possession of, or the ability to obtain prior to the first day of working with children, the following certifications is required: CPR, AED & First AID, Injury Prevention, Heads Up Concussion, Mandatory Reporter, Playground Safety, Universal Precautions, and Medication Administration.  

 

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and two (2) years of driving history.

  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of the equipment, facilities and techniques utilized in a licensed childcare facility. 
  • Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices.
  • Skill in the supervision of school aged children. 
  • Skill in the provision of school aged games and activities. 
  • Skill in the provision of first aid.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt effective actions. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with school aged children and adults. 
  • Ability to handle incidents reports and confrontations in a recreation facility.
  • Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all people entering the facility.
  • Ability to implement planned activities in a safe and positive manner. 
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background, including but not limited to CBI/FBI criminal record check, Department of Social Services Central Registry check, and a drug screen.

Tools & Equipment 

Requires frequent use of school-aged games and classroom equipment used in a childcare facility as well as a fourteen-(14) passenger bus to transport children.  

 

Physical Demands 

Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision.  

 

Environment 

Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled environment, but employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy. 


Full pay range is:  $19.10/hr.  - $24.20/hr.

Starting pay for this position is $20.27/hr.
