Under general supervision, this position provides shift-based supervision to assigned staff at an outdoor swimming pool. This positionengages in active patron, facility, and pool surveillance/supervision, conducts basic pool/equipment maintenance, and enforces safety policies and procedures at outdoor swimming pool(s).

  • Provides front-line, shift-based staff and facility leadership at outdoor pool(s),oversees operations, maintenance, and administration, and provides support for a variety of recreation programs, rentals and special events


  • Responsible for the safe, clean, and efficient operation of a seasonal outdoor pool during the assigned shift. 


  • Utilizes resources to effectively serve customers and remedy complaints or conflicts in a professional manner.


  • Supervises part-time employees during the assigned shift. Assists with hiring, evaluating performance, training, audits, disciplinary procedures, and employee recognition. 


  • Responds to emergency situations, provides appropriate care, and completes necessary reports and communication.


  • Oversees and participates in the completion of shift-based facility maintenance, inspection, and cleaning checklists.


  • Ensures equipment is in proper working order to maintain safe conditions for patrons and staff.


  • Educates on and ensures adherence to facility, safetyand risk management, and emergency response policies, procedures, and practices.  


  • Conducts routine site walkthroughs, identifying and remedying realized or potential safety, maintenance, cleanliness or inventory concerns. Reports findings to supervisor.


  • Oversees and participates in setup, teardown, and cleanup of various programs, activities, rentals, and special events.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 


The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.


Must be at least 18 years of age.


Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of experience as a Head Lifeguard or in a lifeguard supervisory role


Possession of a valid Lifeguard certification.  


Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a Lifeguarding Instructor Certification within ninety (90) days of hire.


Employment Standards

  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Knowledge of commercial swimming pool operations. 

  • Knowledge of lifeguarding standards and best practices. 

  • Knowledge of pool related equipment, chemicals, and material handling.  

  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.

  • Skill in the provision of customer service.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations.

  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.

  • Skill in the operation of life saving equipment and tools. 

  • Skill in verbal and written communication techniques with internal and external staff

  • Ability to swim to a depth of twelve (12) feet; and respond to both land and water-based emergencies.

  • Ability to operate pool related machinery and equipment and complete basic maintenance tasks. 

  • Ability to handle incidents reports and confrontations in a recreation facility.

  • Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all people entering the facility.

  • Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.

  • Ability to work irregular hours including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

Tools & Equipment

Requires frequent use of general office, pool, and lifesaving equipment and tools.  


Physical Demands

Requires regular swimming, sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or jumping, or crawling. Requires occasionalreaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to one hundred (100) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision. 


Environment

Work is frequently performed in both indoor non-climate-controlled buildings and outdoor pool environments. Employees holding this position will be exposed to cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.

Part-time and Seasonal Town of Parker employees have limited access to benefits which include: employee assistance program (EAP), one (1) hour of sick time accrued for every thirty (30) hours worked, and employee plus one (1) other member in your household a membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse. Full pay range is:  $22.81/hr.  - $28.90/hr.
