Teen Court is a restorative justice tool used as an alternative for eligible teens from the Municipal Court system. This position is responsible for coordinating the Teen Court program by recruiting, training, maintaining and managing the youth volunteer of the Teen Court, as we well as conducting Teen Court sessions. This position will also provide support and assistance to Municipal Court, citizens, and a variety of other customers.
Flexibility of schedule, which may include evenings and weekends, and dependability are key aspects of this position. This position typically works between 20-29 hours per week, but does not guarantee number of hours because court needs will vary. This position is not eligible for benefits and all work will need to be done in office.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Assists in the coordination, facilitation, and evaluation of the Teen Court including recruiting and training volunteers, awarding scholarships, evaluating and monitoring cases.
- Screens juvenile defendants for eligibility requirements for Teen Court; recruits Teen Court defendants
- Recruits adult attorneys to serve as judges and mentors, trains youth for positions as Teen Court attorneys, bailiffs and jurors.
- Attends conferences, workshops and trainings; advertises the Teen Court program and prepares and presents various presentations.
- Creates incentives and rewards for all Teen Court volunteers and provides feedback to participants.
- Prepares dockets, assigns cases, schedules and plans intake meetings and sessions, maintains databases and tracks hours and requirement data.
- Provides court or case information to defendants, parents, attorneys, police officers, and the public pursuant to open records and confidentiality requirements.
- Refers defendants to appropriate sources and/or social service agencies to meet sentencing conditions and informs parties of defendant non-compliance.
- Performs tasks related to courtroom and case management, including readying the courtroom for trial, scheduling hearings, preparing dockets, notifying jurors, arranging special assistance, processing citations, and sequestering witnesses.
- Provides cross coverage for all positions within Municipal Court.
- Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable Town policy, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) years of experience working in a clerical, customer service, or related field, with previous experience in a court or legal environment strongly preferred.
Previous working experience with juveniles in community service preferred.
Possession or the ability to readily obtain and maintain Colorado Bureau of Investigation access within thirty (30) days.

- Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
- Skill in performing accurate data entry and records retrieval.
- Skill in cash handling.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to apply ordinances and statutes to routine matters such as dismissing summonses and monitoring deferred sentences.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement involving customer service requests and assignments.
- Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain complex filing systems.
- Ability to compile information and prepare detailed reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM accurately.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to provide a positive customer service experience.

Environment
Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate. The employee may occasionally work outside or drive to attend meetings.
