Position Summary
Under direction of the Vice President/General Counsel, the Claims Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the risk management functions of the Legal Department by and maintaining the company’s internal risk management policies. In addition, this position will assist the Vice President/General Counsel in all stages of corporate transactions and with the review and preparation of documents necessary to comply with federal, state, and local regulations in the conduct of business activities.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assists in the administration of the company’s risk management, safety and commercial insurance programs (including multi-state workers’ compensation, general liability and auto).
- Mitigates exposure to risk by formulating, developing, and coordinating claims-related activities.
- Works with employees, management, claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, and other claims related parties to resolve bona fide claims at the least possible cost through various risk transfer techniques.
- Directs program to ensure the proper and efficient handling of claims, gathering data on claims for record keeping.
- Understands and operationalizes programs, policies, and procedures for: reporting, investigation, and analysis; litigation management; resolution/outcome management; and the delivery of claim information.
- Coordinates outside legal counsel on litigated and complex claims and is entrusted with moderate settlement authority.
- Understands and communicates claims management philosophy and strategy to business unit and regional management.
- Builds, maintains, and manages relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, and other claims related parties.
- Implements approved programs, promoting loss prevention, updating and monitoring compliance with procedures and risk management manuals.
- Provides assistance and guidance to departments regarding liability, risk issues and contract administration.
- Conducts research and prepares a variety of statistical and administrative reports.
- Research and prepare documentation for the formation and maintenance of corporate, partnership and LLC entities.
Other Duties:
- May be assigned to perform duties and functions of a direct supervisor or subordinate employee when that person is absent.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or closely related field or unrelated degree plus two (2) additional years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible risk management and/ or corporate paralegal experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Principles, practices, and techniques of risk management.
- State and Federal regulations related to areas of responsibility.
- Private entity insurance markets.
- Effectively analyze factors concerning risk, liability, safety, and occupation hazards.
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Meet all physical requirements of the position.
- Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations.
- 18 years of age or older, or 21 if CDL is required.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or Paralegal certification or advanced training.
- Professional level proficiency in Spanish language speaking, reading, and writing skills.

This role is based in an office environment with occasional remote work flexibility. The position may require
limited travel.
