JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS
JOB TITLE: PART-TIME CUSTODIAN
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – FACILITIES
DATE: MARCH 2025
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Part-time Custodian performs general cleaning duties at Township facilities. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and is classified as non-exempt under the FLSA. The work week is 20-29 hours per week and may include evening and weekend work. Supervision will be provided by the Assistant Director of Facilities, with oversight provided by FT Custodian.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Get to and from the work site at the times scheduled.
2. Perform general cleaning duties at Township facilities (Municipal Building, Police Station, Robin Hill, Schoolhouse Activity Center, Park Office, etc.).
3. Empty and clean wastebaskets and recycling containers and insert appropriate liners on a daily basis. Deposit trash bags and recycling materials in designated containers.
4. Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, waxing, or dust mopping.
5. Clean carpeted areas by vacuuming and spot clean all stains. Return furnishings to their appropriate location upon completion.
6. Clean and disinfect all sinks and drinking fountains.
7. Clean counters, chairs, and other office area furnishings.
8. Thoroughly clean urinals and toilets with a solution containing a commercial grade disinfectant. Damp mop lavatory floors with germicidal solutions. Clean mirrors and metal fixtures. Spot clean lavatory walls. Refill soap and paper product dispensers. Dust tops of lavatory partitions.
9. Clean entrance door glass and frames to remove marks and smudges.
10. Provide written notice to the Public Works Facilities Manager of any irregularities in need of servicing, including, but not limited to, defective plumbing fixtures, burned out light bulbs, or frayed carpets.
11. Turn out all lights except those required remain on overnight.
12. Performs any other duties or functions as assigned from time to time by the Public Works Facilities Manager.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to effectively perform basic cleaning techniques.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
3. Ability to courteously interact with employees and members of the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from high school or GED.
2. Possession of valid PA driver’s license.
3. Ability to maintain CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) clearance throughout the term of employment.
4. PA State Police Criminal Record Clearance.
5. FBI Criminal History Clearance.
6. PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
