Compensation: $16-$18 per hour
The Training Center is a 21st Century Community Learning Center that provides experiential out-of-school learning opportunities to complement student’s regular academic programs. The program offers free homework assistance, tutoring, social emotional learning (SEL), and other educational enrichment services to families of participating students in Kindergarten-8th grade who attend Marion Community Schools, St Paul Catholic School, and Lakeview Christian School.
Job Summary: The Middle School Program Coordinator at the Training Center is responsible for developing and leading high-quality, trauma-informed afterschool and summer programming that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. This role promotes the organization’s mission by fostering a safe, inclusive environment rooted in strong relationships and mental wellbeing. Key responsibilities include planning and evaluating daily activities, supervising staff and volunteers, tracking student progress, and ensuring compliance with 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant requirements. The Coordinator also partners with families, schools, and community organizations to support student success, implements college and career readiness activities, and oversees the mentoring program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote the values and mission of the Training Center 21st CCLC in all interactions with staff, students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and community leaders.
- Commit to helping students cultivate strong mental health and wellbeing skills as they grow in confidence, set goals, and dream of a positive future.
- Ensure provision of high-quality programming for students that is welcoming, safe, inclusive, trauma-informed, well-rounded, and has a foundation on strong relationships.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate Middle School programs, services, and activities that prepare students for success while promoting safety and program quality.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure Middle School programming is in compliance with all requirements of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant awarded by the Indiana Department of Education.
- Plan, post, and implement a daily program schedule with written lesson plans as needed/appropriate, including creating engaging activities that ensure participation of students.
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, assist in assigning and supervising Site Assistant, coaches, and volunteers working with middle school students.
- Supervise, guide, and assist students during snack and dinner, academic time, recreation, games, and other educational activities.
- Work with Middle School Site Assistant to plan and facilitate weekly SEL groups with students. Focus on developing and practicing mental health and wellbeing skills.
- Monitor student behavior during activities, effectively handle student discipline situations, and encourage and support positive behavior through implementing trauma informed practices. Includes one-on-ones with students and facilitating conflict resolution between students as needed.
- Assist Executive Director and other leaders in monitoring the security of the building at all times to ensure student’s health and safety. Provide general First Aid when needed.
- Communicate with the Executive Director and Site Assistant regarding child behavior and program information.
- Work with other leadership/staff to ensure a clean building is maintained, including cleaning classrooms, activity spaces, bathroom and kitchen areas after daily use.
- Collect and document all objectives, outcomes, student data, and other information as needed including tracking attendance, enrollment, and calendar of activities.
- Assist with input of data in Cayen (grant reporting software) to ensure compliance for success as a 21 Century Community Learning Center.
- Monitor student grades and develop and implement interventions/supports to motivate and hold students accountable to completing school assignments well in pursuit of improved grades. Enhanced focus on Language Arts/Reading and Math.
- Develop strong working relationships with school leaders and teachers on behalf of students enrolled in the Training Center Middle School Program.
- Maintain routine contact with principals, teachers, and other staff/volunteers to discuss student’s academic needs, learning goals, issues, challenges, and opportunities for collaboration.
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, recruit, enroll, and retain students who are recommended for the program.
- Work with community leaders and organizations to strengthen existing partnerships and develop new relationships.
- Identify unique needs of students and meet with families to provide support in creating and implementing plans to address identified needs.
- Oversee and further develop/re-build high-quality Mentoring Program.
- Plan and lead hands-on College and Career Programming to teach students about career opportunities and begin developing life and job skills.
- Assist with transport of students as needed.
- Seek to learn new and effective ways to offer programming and related activities to enhance the growth of students and families served.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ability to manage challenging situations.
- Act on behalf of the Executive Director when asked.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance preferred
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field
- Experience in an educational setting or child care program working with middle school students
- Passion and heart for children
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations
- Ability to organize and multi-task a variety of responsibilities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision - self-motivated
- Experience with Google Workspace (Drive, sheets, docs) and Canva
- CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions Certifications required within 90 days after entering position
Physical Requirements:
