What You’ll Do:

Your Impact:

As an Event Chef at Powisset Farm, you'll embrace the importance of farm-fresh food and craft creative culinary experiences for guests. You'll work with an enthusiatic team at a historic 109-acre farm, a beloved part of the Dover, MA community and home to a 300-person organic vegetable CSA, year-round public programming, and a network of trails for passive recreation, which connect to an additional 2,000 acres of open space. 

The Role:

As a Event Chef, you'll be a key member of the Powisset Farm culinary team, reporting to the Chef/Instructor and collaborating with the Public Programs and Engagement Manager. You will embody the importance of locally grown, farm-fresh food and demonstrate the importance of farm-to-table whenever possible, as well as be responsible for preparing delicious, high quality, fresh, flavorful food for public-programmed events. 

You'll prepare food in the Powisset Farm kitchen, a fully equipped commercial and teaching kitchen, housed in a renovated 19th-century barn, and in a seasonal outdoor kitchen featuring a wood-fired brick pizza oven, teaching and demonstration space, and a bar. 

Specifically, you’ll:

  • Utilize your skills as a culinary professional to manage a team of individuals with a range of experience levels and skill sets.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, sense of urgency, teaching mindset, culinary knowledge, sense of food artistry, strong communication skills, and an understanding of the importance of cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Collaborate and communicate with visitors, volunteers, and staff members.
  • Effectively solve problems on the fly and adapt to obstacles calmly.
  • Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards.

This is a seasonal/limited term position (40/week) reporting directly to the Chef/Instructor of Powisset Farm.

What You’ll Need:

Skills and Experience:

  • Required:
    • Experience cooking high-quality food in a professional or commercial kitchen setting
    • Strong food presentation and event timing skills
    • Strong management and organizational skills
    • Experience cooking in a catering firm
    • Kitchen management experience
    • ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certification
    • Experience working in a public or private events setting
    • Responsible and committed, very patient, exceptional attention to detail and safety 
    • Demonstrated interest in farm-fresh, locally sourced food 
    • Ability to both work independently, and collaborate with a team 
  • Preferred:
    • 3 years of professional or commercial kitchen experience
    • 2 years of professional experience in a catering firm
    • 2 years of kitchen management experience

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
