Tufts Global Education (TGE) serves as a hub of international programs and initiatives at the School of Arts and Science and School of Engineering. The division works with faculty, students, and across the University on global engagement. TGE oversees study abroad, international exchange programs, international learning collaborations, and faculty-led custom programs. We currently operate 11 of our own programs and we also facilitate student participation in approved programs throughout the world.
What You'll Do
This is a hybrid role. The expectation is that this role will be on campus four days a week during the academic year, with the possibility for additional flexibility depending on the academic needs of the department.
The Program Manager (PM) plays a vital role in supporting Tufts Global Education (TGE) and its Associate Dean. The Program Manager is responsible for advising Tufts students who study abroad on affiliate programs (more than 400 students per year). The PM’s portfolio will change based on office needs and program enrollments. Responsibilities include:
- Manages a portfolio of short, customized programs abroad and plays a role in developing new opportunities
- Conducts student outreach, enrollment, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation programs
- Determines transfer of credit from non-Tufts programs, reviews and evaluates the quality of education abroad programs
- Plans and designs new student initiatives around outreach, peer advising, and student education in consultation with stakeholders
- Evaluates and monitors the international health, safety, and security of the international programs
- Serves as the point person for students while abroad on external programs and communicate with partners on student affairs, academics, and logistics
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean on creating new partnership models with providers and international universities
- Establishes clear policy and protocols in conjunction with various stakeholders
- Oversees their program portfolio and provides recommendations to the Associate Dean
- Supports office-wide marketing / promotion efforts to achieve department and institutional goals
- Works directly with various academic and student service units, as well as outside constituents (parents, international and national partners, etc.), to deliver the highest quality student experience possible
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Master’s degree and 4 years of experience in global education
- Demonstrated strengths in administration in the field of international education/study abroad required
- Study abroad experience or significant travel and work abroad required
- Experience in advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting is critical
- Proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively with college students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Excellent organizational skills required. Proven attention to detail and strong follow through
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
- Ability to work effectively in intercultural situations and in dynamic, fast-paced atmosphere in which expectations are high
- Must be able to handle multiple and complex responsibilities
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing student employees
- Communication and outreach experience
- Designing academic and student programs abroad
- Demonstrated writing skills and ability to create detailed reports
- Should be energetic, self-directed, flexible, and extremely well-organized and hard working
- Ability to analyze and summarize information and make appropriate recommendations for program revisions in the context of institutional and programmatic goals
- Knowledge of other languages desirable
