Job Description:
To consistently achieve the service and product delivery standards with a high degree of client care and service throughout the banqueting event experience and to provide an exceptional and memorable guest experience. The banquet captain will serve the guest’s needs by directly supervising and overseeing the service and associates of banquet functions as assigned by the Assistant Banquet Manager or Banquet Director. This person will be the primary point of contact for all onsite clients during their events to insure flawless execution.
Job Requirements:
- Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and in a clean uniform.
- Exceptional knowledge of all Umstead Hotel banquet standards and operating procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Exceptional leadership qualities and management techniques to successfully lead and execute their assigned events.
- Exceptional communication abilities to direct associates and interact with guests, clients and internal departments to build relationships.
- Anticipate guest and onsite contact needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to concerns and requests.
- Being able to consistently perform tasks and direct others within a given time frame to insure all event components are setup on time.
- Being able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.
- Assist with administrative duties including closing banquet checks, inventory and preparing supply requisitions/ ordering.
- Periodically attend required meetings/ precons in the absence of the Assistant Banquet Manager or Banquet Director.
- Maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safety
- Train, motivate, retain, recommend discipline, and supervise the work of banquet associates ensuring that that all are complying with The Umstead Hotel & Spa Vision and Values.

- Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.
- In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your Manager.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work a flexible shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays
- Must be able to continuously stand/ walk a minimum of 8 hours
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. over the course of a shift.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
- All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.
- Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other elements.
- Must be able to operate all banquet related equipment: coffee machine, toaster, wine/ bottle opener
Qualifications
Education:
High school or equivalent education required
Experience:
1-2 years banquet captain in an upscale hotel, restaurant or country club. Previous four or five star hotel banquet captain experience preferred.
Licenses or Certificates:
Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits.
