Expanding Leominster Dog Walking Company Seeking Urgent New Hire

Visits from The Unbound Hound are tailored to our client’s individual needs. We provide on-leash walks, off leash playgroups, and check in/boarding services for our clients. Not only do we work with dogs, but we also provide care for cats while the owners are away.

The ideal candidate for a dog walking position at The Unbound Hound would be incredibly punctual and have a great grasp on time management. The person must be self-motivated, reliable, and personable. Many people in the dog industry say they prefer to work with animals, but most of our work is truly with our human clients and the walker will need to have excellent communication skills.

We specialize in structured leash walks and playgroups. Walker responsibilities will include monitoring dog/dog interactions, dog body language, and keeping dogs safe during leash walks. Prior experience in dog handling, dog grooming, dog daycare, dog training, or a pet store employee is a plus as these positions have directly applicable skill sets. Candidates will be required to complete a one-day working interview. Dog walking is fun and rewarding but it can also have some physically demand and we want our candidates to get hands-on experience.

During solo leash walks, the walker is expected to focus on proper leash walking techniques with all dogs. Care should be taken to avoid any triggers that an individual dog may have such as a fear of strangers or other dogs. The goal of each walk is to ensure that the dog gets physical exercise as well as has a chance to relieve themself. Walks are timed for either 20 mins, 30 mins or one hour based upon client preference and particular breed energy levels. Upon completion of each walk a progress report and photos will be submitted to each client- no exceptions. Communication with our clients is of utmost importance at The Unbound Hound.

Job Requirements:

• MUST have a reliable vehicle owned and insured by the applicant as well as a Valid MA driver’s license
• Must be available Monday-Friday between 10-3, but we have plenty of after-hours request, morning requests, as well as animal boarding to earn lots of extra income
• A great attitude and willingness to learn dog handling skills
• Physical ability to walk for up to 5 hours in a day with breaks during travel between clients
• Willingness to work with dogs and cats
• Must be willing to pick up after animals
• Must have a smartphone and be tech savvy to learn our dog walking software/app
• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions

Daily Responsibilities:

• Be available Monday-Friday 10-3
• Drive between client homes and walk the dogs as scheduled in our app for the predetermined amount of time. App contains GPS as well as time stamps in and out of client homes.
• Give dogs great walks, pats, treats, love, affection and the occasional cuddle. Above all else, we love our dogs.
• Pick up and dispose of all pet waste, poop bags, litter, etc..
• Send a journal at the end of every visit complete with pictures, GPS map, and a two-way journal where you can communicate anything important with the owners.

Pay Structure:

You will be hired as an employee under The Unbound Hound. Training will be 2-3 weeks of hands-on experience directly with the company owner. You will be paid hourly as a dog walkers based upon experience. We are looking for people who love animals and are enthusiastic about learning more about animal handling and behavior.
