PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Development Director is responsible for cultivating donor relationships, identifying new funding opportunities, and overseeing fundraising and development staff. This position manages all fundraising and development activities, ensuring the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and fundraising events.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Management & Stewardship (50%)

  • Cultivates and nurtures relationships with donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders through regular communication and stewardship. This includes identifying and engaging with new donors and sponsors, as well as maintaining positive relationships with existing supporters.
  • Manages business development staff, setting goals, providing guidance and support, and evaluating performance.
  • Champions The Union at events and in other professional contexts.
  • Creates comprehensive donor portfolios in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Fosters relationships within the community to enhance visibility and engagement with The Union for Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Community Director.
  • Assists the Executive Director with the management and cultivation of existing grant relationships, individual donors, and corporate partners.

Prospecting New Donors and Fundraising (30%)

  • Identifies new funding opportunities to expand The Union's donor base and revenue streams.
  • Identifies new grant opportunities to ensure balanced funding channels.
  • Facilitates annual fundraising events with the Events and Project Manager, which will include securing sponsorship opportunities and donations and leading the overall event strategy and execution.
  • Ensures fundraising events align with the organization's goals and mission.
  • Contributes to the development of grant proposals in collaboration with the Grants Manager.

Strategic Financial Planning (20%)

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive fundraising plan that meets The Union’s organizational budget and sets the organization up for future growth.
  • Collaborates with The Union’s Board of Directors, keeping them fully informed of the organization’s fundraising initiatives.
  • Assists the Board with the successful implementation of the annual Board campaign.
  • Creates a strategic plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Development Team that outlines clear financial objectives and innovative fundraising strategies.
  • Collaborates with the marketing and communications departments, to ensure that all fundraising and development activities align with The Union's mission, goals, and values.
  • Coordinates with other departments to develop and execute fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Plays a collaborative role in stewarding the overall health of The Union, representing the organization at public functions, and providing input on strategic organizational decisions.
  • Conducts financial forecasting with the Executive Director.
  • Anticipates future funding needs and develops long-term financial plans to ensure sustainability.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Director oversees the Grants and Database Manager position at The Union.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Community Development, Nonprofit Management, Finance or a related discipline is required. A Masters degree in a related field can be advantageous. Experience in community engagement and development, finance administration, fundraising or a similar field is highly valued.

CERTIFICATIONS and LICENSES

Valid Driver’s License and proof of adequate liability insurance coverage for personal vehicle required.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience in the nonprofit sector and a keen understanding of the multifaceted roles that a small organization’s team members often assume. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Typical office environment with frequent sitting and standing.

2. Upper body strength will be required to lift, pull, and push up to 50 pounds on occasion.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
