Purpose:
The Children’s Ministry Director will lead and oversee the spiritual development of children from Kindergarten through middle school, ensuring that all children’s ministry programs align with the church’s mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ. This role focuses on creating a welcoming and engaging environment that fosters children’s faith and personal relationship with God.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Vision:
- Develop and implement a vision for children’s ministry that encourages children and their families to grow spiritually.
- Foster an atmosphere where children can explore their faith and build a personal relationship with God.
Programming:
- Oversee and coordinate Sunday school classes, ensuring engaging, age-appropriate Bible teaching.
- Plan and facilitate regular weekday or weekend programs for middle school children.
- Organize and lead special and seasonal programs.
- Encourage and facilitate children’s active participation in worship, service, and fellowship activities within the church.
Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for all children’s ministry programs.
- Ensure all volunteers undergo proper screening and training, adhering to church child safety policies.
Communication & Coordination:
- Maintain regular communication with parents, providing updates on ministry events and curriculum.
- Work closely with the Senior Pastor and church staff to align children’s ministry goals with the church’s overall mission.
- Manage the children’s ministry budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain child protection protocols and emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children.
- Ensure all programs comply with United Methodist Church Safe Sanctuary policies.
Events & Special Programs:
- Plan and lead the church’s Vacation Bible School (VBS) program.
- Organize and oversee seasonal events, such as Easter celebrations (e.g., egg hunts), Mother’s Day special praise, and Halloween alternatives.
- Coordinate and direct the annual Christmas program, collaborating with the worship team and families.
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or church leadership, in alignment with the church’s mission and the needs of the children’s ministry.
Qualifications:
Essential
o Minimum of two years of experience working in children’s or youth ministry.
o Passion for working with children and nurturing their spiritual growth.
o Strong organizational and leadership skills.
o Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
o Successful completion of a background check.
Preferred
o Bachelor’s degree in education or Christian education.
Working Conditions:
- The Children’s Ministry Director has a flexible work schedule but is required to be present on Sunday mornings and for all children’s ministry programs.
- This part-time position is allocated a maximum of 70 hours per month (800 hours per year), with a minimum expectation of 10 hours per week.
- The workload may vary throughout the year, and specific hours will be coordinated with the Senior Pastor and Staff/Parish Relations Committee liaison as needed.
- The Director must inform the church office and Senior Pastor in the event of an unexpected absence from scheduled duties and arrange for a suitable substitute in advance when necessary.
- The Director is entitled to two weeks of vacation per year, which must be coordinated with the Senior Pastor. The Director is responsible for arranging coverage during absences.
- Continuing education opportunities require approval from the Employee/Parish Relations Committee and the Senior Pastor.
- Salary reviews will be conducted at least annually.
