Title: Director of Contemporary Worship
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Status: Part Time, 15-20 hours per week
Benefits: $20-$24 / hour
The Director of Contemporary Worship gives leadership to the OnCenter praise & worship team of Community United Methodist Church.
The Director of Contemporary Worship takes work direction from, reports to, and is accountable to the Senior Pastor. This person is responsible for selecting music, leading rehearsals, and guiding the music portions of the contemporary worship service. This role is a part-time position.
- To cultivate and lead a ministry of vibrant, authentic, joyful, Spirit-led worship.
- To teach and encourage God’s people to become genuine, passionate worshippers of God—not only at church, but wherever we go.
- To inspire, encourage, and equip those with musical gifts and abilities to serve the Lord through worship.
- To ensure that our worship services remain a safe place to know, love and follow Jesus.
- Select music that aligns with the themes of sermon series, work closely with Lead Pastor
- Recruit worship team members
- Direct weekly rehearsal (90 minutes)
- Work closely with audio technician to ensure best possible sound
- Must find substitute worship leader when needed
- Recruit & build relationships with local musicians to enhance the worship experience
- Collaborate with pastoral leadership, music & worship arts staff, and volunteer musicians to design and develop meaningful, creative worship throughout the year including Sundays, seasonal worship events (including Christmas Eve) and other special worship experiences
- Facilitate timely communication with music & worship arts staff and volunteers, all CUMC publications & promotions, and church leadership.
- Attend weekly staff meeting
- Represent worship arts on planning groups for special events
- Work with music & worship arts staff to prepare annual budget proposal
- Provide forward-looking vision for the overall music & worship arts life of the congregation
- Care for OnCenter subscriptions and musical instruments
- Be a spiritual guide for those on the praise team
The Director of Contemporary Worship carries supervisory responsibility for the OnCenter worship paid staff and media specialist.
- Possess a growing faith, a passion for Jesus Christ, a love for people, and a heart that desires to see God’s people become authentic worshippers of God
- Skilled vocally and experienced in leading worship with a guitar and/or keyboard/piano [preferred]
- Experience and skill in working with musicians, vocalists, and building worship teams of all skill levels
- Experience in leading contemporary worship
- Experience in leading a body of believers in deeper levels of worship
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to be a team player, but also a self-starter
- Able to be in unity with church leadership’s vision for the church
- Understand copyright procedures and expectations
- Knowledge of Planning Center Online & SongShow Plus [preferred]
