What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Worker - High School Youth Group position at The Universalist Church?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Universalist Church of West Hartford is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our team and support the emotional, mental, and social well-being of our high school youth group. The ideal candidate will have experience working with teenagers, offering guidance, support, and counseling in a faith-based setting.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Provide a safe and supportive space for teens to share their concerns, struggles, and successes.
- Develop and lead group discussions on topics relevant to high school students such as mental health, relationships, coping strategies, and spirituality.
- Collaborate with church leadership and the Lifespan Religious Educator to plan and implement programs that promote the well-being and development of teens.
- Offer crisis intervention and referrals to community resources when necessary.
- Support the spiritual growth of youth through UU guidance and mentorship.
- Work closely with parents, guardians, and other church staff to ensure a holistic approach to the teens' development and well-being.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience working with teenagers in a counseling, social work, or youth ministry context.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with teens and families.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, mental health issues, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Passion for working with youth and fostering a supportive and positive environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable with fostering diversity within the group, including queer and racial diversity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in group facilitation, particularly with teens.
- Familiarity with local community resources for teen support and mental health services.
- Familiarity with Unitarian Universalism or other progressive religious communities preferred.

Pay: $35.00 per hour
