Job Information

Job Summary

The Engineering Foreman plans, schedules, assigns, distributes and monitors workload of the Building Engineering staff and contractors. Performs duties throughout the University buildings, property and facilities, in accordance with University standards and procedures. This position does not require the Foreman to hire, fire, promote or take disciplinary action.

This position works Monday - Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm, and can flex an hour on the start.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, distributes and monitors work to assure timely performance of the work assigned to the employees reporting to him/her, and for assuring the work is completed in accordance with industry and Booth standards
  • Schedules and oversees planning of assigned workload(s) via CMMS.
  • Keeps supervisor current with issues and impediments to the progress of work assignments.
  • Documents test results, as-builts prints and prepares daily reports as required by Management.
  • Orders and inventories needed materials.
  • Introduces new employees to the work environment. Identifies and provides training to employees on an ongoing basis.
  • Uses computers to enter and access job-related information. Carries and responds to cell phone. In absence of supervisor, will be expected to access systems from home in order to adjust, troubleshoot or give instructions to the Engineer on duty.
  • Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment.
  • Undertakes training related to job responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by the University.
  • Capable of and may perform all duties of the Journeyman Building Engineer and Refrigeration/Building Engineer as required in accordance with shop practices.
  • Performs job-related duties as may be assigned.

  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods such as in person, email, and phone required.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach required.

Additional Responsibilities

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or (GED) required.
  • Completion of a job-related apprenticeship or vocational training required.

Experience

  • A minimum of five years of journeyman-level experience in building systems and maintenance required.
  • Previous lead or foreman experience preferred.

Licenses And Certifications

  • Universal EPA Refrigerant certification required.
  • Current valid driver's license.

Technical Knowledge Or Skills

  • Working familiarity with Chicago Building Code required.
  • Read blueprints, plans, drawings, schemata, read and interpret instruction and documents required.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions relevant to the position required.
  • Knowledge of the use of computerized maintenance management system and building automation systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.

Working Conditions And Physical Requirements

  • Lift, kneel, climb stairs, ladders, work at heights, work in tight spaces and withstand hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move loads appropriate to job requirements and bend and work in a kneeling position for periods of time.
  • Position requires periods of overtime.
  • This position works Mon-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm, can flex an hour on the start.
