Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Exercise Physiologist in the Adult Echocardiography Department.
Responsible for monitoring patients during stress testing for diagnosis of heart capacity while patients exercise under controlled conditions. They record heart activity using EKG, measure oxygen consumption and compile results for physician review.
Essential Job Functions
- Does patient education of stress test prior to exam. Interviews patients for cardiac risk factors along with cardiac history and symptoms prior to the test
- Safely administers to all patients Nuclear Exercise, Stress Echo, Routine Stress and Cardiopulmonary Stress Tests, with12 lead EKG and blood pressure monitoring. Oversee Lexiscan Nuclear Stress Tests
- Complete paperwork and enter testing data into Cardio Report Ware reporting system
- Precalls for appointments along with patient education for any tests that are to be performed
- Check all orders prior to tests, follow up as necessary with ordering physician
- Monitor and restock all bays in the Nuclear Stress Bays. Make sure all items are non-expired
- Schedule outpatients, inpatients, and Emergency room patients scheduled for immediate discharge Stress tests on an as needed basis
- Evaluates patients’ ability to safely exercise on the treadmill. Notify cardiology Fellow of concerns/contraindications prior to doing a stress test based on ACSM guidelines after evaluating the patient, obtaining the patients cardiac history and reviewing the patients’ chart
- Arrange transportation in Epic for inpatient and emergency patients to the Stress Lab
- Follow up with any equipment issues and contact appropriate vendor
- Insert IVs as necessary for testing for nuclear stress tests, Echo procedures utilizing Definity or Optison and Bubble studies
- Monitor and order patient nutrition, Ekg paper, and cardiopulmonary testing face masks in Oracle
- Complies with standards and regulations of regulatory and accrediting agencies, ACSM and the joint Commission. Demonstrates awareness and compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Maintain safe and clean exercise facility. Participates in Quality Improvement activities
- Performs other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
- B.S in Exercise Science/Physiology
- Possess knowledge of exercise physiology
- Basic computer skills to allow access to operations and patient monitoring necessary
- Physical ability to demonstrate exercise techniques
- Exercise Specialist certification by the American College of Sports Medicine
- BLS/ACLS certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters with experience or training equivalent to that specified for an Exercise Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine
- Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
