Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Pharmacy Manager at our Northwest Indiana facility. This is a unique experience to help build our pharmacy team from the ground up, as part of an exciting new site launch in Crown Point, IN! As the Pharmacy Manager, you will oversee sterile product preparations, general quality systems, and regulatory compliance to assure the provision of safe, effective, and timely medication therapy as well as integrated pharmaceutical care to the patient population seen in the University of Chicago Medical Center and Affiliate.
As a front-line operations manager, this individual is a problem solver, a motivator, a coordinator, and will set the standard for excellence which is a goal of the department. Actively tracks and benchmarks the outcomes of quality programs for operational, clinical quality, and financial efficiency. Assists in the development of goals for the department and works with other managers and key individuals such as physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel to facilitate the accomplishment of these goals. This leader actively identifies practice related issues which require evaluation and facilitates clinical research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice. Facilitates and supports student, resident, and pharmacist training experiences and competencies. Sets the standard for excellence for the department’s ambulatory sterile compounding services and designs systems that support the infrastructure for pharmacy operations and integrated quality programs. This is a front-line, working manager who would be responsible for direct patient care.
Essential Job Functions
- Assign roles of Clinical-Staff Pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacists or Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, and Pharmacy Technicians, oversees the day to day staffing and scheduling of pharmacists and technicians in these areas.
- Develops standards of performance and evaluate staff work and program performance. Provides positive feedback, counseling regarding job performance including employee discipline if needed and preparation of yearly staff evaluations.
- Maintains competent staff by coordinating training for new employees, coaching and mentoring of all employees, and routine communication to staff.
- Oversees the management of chemotherapy, biotech drug, traditional therapy operational systems and their integrated pharmacist programs.
- Promotes excellent customer service by assisting patients, co-workers, medical staff, and other healthcare providers resolve expressed concerns, demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude, and responding in a positive, professional, and courteous manner.
- Identifies customer (patient and healthcare provider) requirements, both actual and anticipated, and maintains active personal contact and rapport with potential and actual customers.
- Participates in the planning and management of the pharmacy budget; assess drug therapy issues in terms of quality and cost; review protocols, orders, and formulary requests.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
- Advanced Degree, Masters of Science, MBA, or Doctor of Pharmacy highly preferred
- Completion of an ASHP General or Administrative Residency highly preferred.
- Oncology experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
