Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Same Day Surgery Center as a Operating Room (OR) Nursing Supervisor in the Ambulatory Surgery department. Here, you will provide guidance and direction to the surgery center's clinical staff, and are responsible for assuring that nursing care is provided in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures, established standards of nursing care and practice, and as defined by the State of Illinois. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, responsible for the perioperative care of the patient; directs professional and other health care personnel in the delivery of nursing care to the surgical patient’s perioperatively; complies with standards, policies, procedures; supports the vision and mission of UChicago Medicine Ingalls Ambulatory Surgery Center. The position will have a wide range of access to protected health information ("phi") and understands the importance of confidentiality regarding all patient information pursuant to HIPPA policies and procedures. Overall job responsibility will consist of 60% clinical duties, 40% leadership and supervision.
Essential Job Functions
- Direct, coordinate staff scheduling assignments, inventory control, and operating room turnover efficiency
- Work closely with team to facilitate efficiency and patient/physician satisfaction
- Leads in promoting a positive atmosphere for staff, patients and physicians
- Counsels and coaches the team by guiding, directing, motivating, and mediating conflict resolution
- Leads staff development, new employee orientation, and training
- Monitors and insures staff compliance with policies and procedures
- Insures continuity and appropriateness of nursing care during working hours and acts as a resource regarding clinical issues of patient care
- Reviews and ensures supply availability and preference card development
- Performs other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR Associate's (ADN)
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Minimum 3 year of Operating Room experience, preferably ambulatory surgery
- OR charge experience
- Experienced in staff role and history of good performance
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
