Job Description

Join us at the Forefront, at UChicago Medicine, as a Pharmacy Operations Coordinator in the  Meds2Beds department.  In this role as a Pharmacy Operations Coordinator, you will function as an operations and program leaders dedicated to providing support of medication use systems and delivery of optimal medication therapy in transitions of care pharmacy. Pharmacy Operations Coordinators are responsible for coordinating pharmacy operations and operation components for accreditation. Meds2Beds is known for providing valued pharmacy services to patients discharging home from inpatient care and supporting their outpatient needs to allow for an optimal transitions of care experience. We are dedicated to providing patients with the personal service necessary to ensure that they achieve the most benefit from their medication therapy. 

 

 

Pharmacy Operations Coordinators may have different assignments or functional roles based on experience, training, and skills. These assignments include direct patient care, operational services, or administrative leadership. Pharmacy Operations Coordinators with direct patient care roles proficiently provide clinical pharmacy services and integrated pharmacy operational services in a variety of practice settings in collaboration with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other personnel. They also work with interdisciplinary programs to deliver medication therapy management within patient care services and to ensure pharmaceutical care programs are appropriately integrated throughout the institution. Pharmacy Operations Coordinators with operational services roles adeptly function in and provide leadership for pharmacy operational areas, including but not limited to the call center, retail, Meds2Beds, and specialty pharmacy areas. They also are responsible for active utilization of pharmacy automation, involvement in and oversight of medication dispensing programs, and supervision of pharmacy technical staff activities. Pharmacy Operations Coordinators with administrative leadership roles directly oversee training and competency, medication safety systems, patient quality and outcomes programs, and regulatory compliance assurance.

 

Essential Job Functions 

 

  • Coordinates assigned pharmacy programs, patient service lines, and practice area
  • Delivers direct patient care and clinical practice for pharmacy services
  • Oversight of operations in Meds2Beds transitions of care pharmacy
  • Facilitates staff training and competency, experiential education and practice advancement
  • Promote excellent customer service by assisting patients, co-workers, medical staff, and other healthcare providers to resolve expressed concerns, demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude, and responding in a positive, professional, and courteous manner. Identify customer (patient and healthcare provider) requirements, both actual and anticipated, and maintain active personal contact and rapport with potential and actual customers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contemporary pharmacy practice and clinical service; and updates in traditional therapeutics, professional practice standards, or healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a specialized evidence-based knowledge of drug and drug therapy by reviewing relevant professional journals and suggested readings.
  • Maintain a sustained record of contribution to the total body of knowledge in pharmacy practice through presentations, publications, and professional affiliation activities
  • Collaborate with peers to externally promote contribution of the department to the practice of pharmacy and medical literature. Present poster or platform presentations at state or national forums at least every 24 months.
  • Submit material worthy for publishing in a peer-reviewed journal at least every 24 months.
  • Maintain a high professional profile and active membership in pharmacy organizations (active membership in other local, state, or national professional organizations is highly encouraged).
  • Demonstrate personal leadership qualities and business acumen essential to operate effectively within the institution and advance the profession and practice of pharmacy

    Required Qualifications 

     

  • Completion of a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • 1 year of ambulatory pharmacy experience, operational and/or clinical
  • Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.  Extensive clinical experience and development may be considered in lieu of formal training
  • Pharmacy leadership experience required, with formal leadership training or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois (complete licensure process within 60 days of employment).

    Preferred Qualifications 

     

  • Completion of other advanced degree highly preferred.
  • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
  • Board certification in pharmacotherapy or ambulatory pharmacy is encouraged after 18 months of work
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with general outpatient pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of computers (word processing etc.), technology, and automation systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel.
  • Ability to define departmental or program problems/needs and associated solutions.
  • Ability to integrate transitions of care pharmacy services with quality improvement, teaching, research, and professional development activities.
  • Significant general clinical knowledge and expertise in traditional therapeutics and patient centered care.
  • Strong teaching and precepting skills and expertise in experiential training.
  • Strong project and change management skills. 
  • Personal leadership qualities and business acumen essential to operate effectively within the institution and advance the profession and practice of pharmacy.

    Compensation & Benefits Overview

     

    UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

     

    The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
