Respiratory Therapist Student, Rotating
Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Respiratory Student (RT).
This second-year student in RCS will perform basic respiratory care treatments and procedures under the proximal supervision of a licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist while working Flexible Hours in 12,10 or 8 hour shifts. In this role you will provide for a patient's assessment to determine cardiopulmonary status, implement appropriate patient care protocols, or to maintain/improve cardiopulmonary hemodynamic status.
Essential Job Functions
- Administers supplemental oxygen as prescribed by direct physician order or via established and approved departmental patient care protocols; documents such procedures appropriately and accurately.
- Administers intermittent (Small Volume Nebulizer, MDI, etc.) therapy (bronchodilators, steroid therapy, mucolytics, etc.) as prescribed or via established and approved department protocols. Documents such procedures into the EPIC electronic medical record appropriately and accurately; in real-time fashion. Properly assesses and monitors the patient during administration of such modalities.
- Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene. Implements airway clearance techniques (to include Chest Physiotherapy, coughing/deep breathing techniques, Therapy Vest, EzPap device, Acapella device, & incentive spirometry) per physician order or under the guidelines of established and approved departmental protocols. Documents such procedures into the EPIC electronic medical record appropriately and accurately per hospital policy.
Required Qualifications
- Second-Year Student in an approved and accredited Respiratory Care Program with evidence of continued enrollment
- Must demonstrate effective and accurate communication, documentation and technical skills, both verbally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS/PALS Certification

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
