DepartmentPSD Applied Data Science StaffAbout the DepartmentThe Master of Science in Applied Data Science (MS-ADS) program is a graduate program within the Physical Sciences Division (PSD) and Data Science Institute at The University of Chicago. Based in the NBC Tower in downtown Chicago, the purpose of the MS-ADS program is to train the next generation of data science experts for industries including but not limited to finance, healthcare, automotive, digital marketing, retail, and more. MS-ADS supports a diverse student body of international, domestic, part-time, full-time, in-person, and online learners with backgrounds in technical fields who want to advance their careers through a rigorous curriculum and an unparalleled network. Learn more about our program at this link .Job SummaryThe Director of Student Affairs leads and manages the MS-ADS Student Services and Advising team in support of broader program and division-level priorities and objectives. In collaboration with the MS-ADS Executive Director / Chief of Staff Director and Physical Sciences Division stakeholders as appropriate, the Director supports the MS-ADS student affairs strategy to define and measure learning outcomes for the student affairs curriculum for the in-person, online, and joint degree programs. The Director manages a team of professional staff responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students and advising students with academic challenges in addition to support the team’s professional development and growth. The Director is further responsible for maintaining and cultivating collegial relationships among students, faculty, and staff across the University. The Director must relate student affairs theory to practice in support of MS-ADS student development to design and implement creative approaches to support a diverse student body.ResponsibilitiesManages the student affairs employees including selection, training, annual performance goals, allocating resources, and assessing team performance.Administers support for student advising on administrative and academic issues, as appropriate; assists in resolving student issues, facilitates the student graduation approval process, and provides guidance and meets with students as needed.Designs student services and advising programs and platforms with inclusive learning practices in mind.Facilitates professional development opportunities for the Student Affairs and Advising Team to advance their knowledge and creativity in the work they do on behalf of students, faculty, and staff within the MS-ADS program.Oversees, plans, and coordinates programs, events, and relevant student communication.Serves as the Student Affairs Administrator, which is the liaison between the Physical Sciences Division and the MS-ADS program, on relevant student matters.Solves complex problems in areas such as academic and administrative policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, and student advising.Develops, implements, and ensures compliance on program policies and practices that align with the University of Chicago and Physical Sciences Division.Builds and sustains relationships with key student and academic affairs stakeholders across the university such as the PSD, DSI, Office of International Affairs, Student Wellness, Student Disability Services, Registrar’s Office, Multicultural Student Affairs, Financial Aid, UChicago Grad, Bursar’s Office, and more.Works directly with students who are not in alignment with program policies and expectations to realign their focus on a successful degree completion.Participates and advises various campus-wide and program committees in various aspects of student life.Develops and executes the mission / vision and program evaluation plan for MS-ADS student services and advising in collaboration with the MS-ADS Executive Director / Chief of Staff.Serves as the primary administrator for student data platforms (i.e., AIS, SIA, Stellic, Maxient, etc.).Identifies short-, medium-, and longer-term allocation of MS-ADS resources to meet strategic student services and advising priorities.Collaborates with MS-ADS colleagues as appropriate to consider promising practices for student persistence for all learners in the program.Manages the MS-ADS current student website and ensures content is up to date.Oversees registration systems and processes, including the external student course enrollment requests, to solidify accurate enrollment management.Oversees the Student Affairs budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support student services and initiatives, that align with the MS-ADS program strategic goals and address student needs.Manages day-to-day finances, including reimbursements, purchase requests, and expense report reconciliation through Oracle FST and GEMS Concur.Manages the execution of the school's registration, enrollment, grading, and graduation procedures.
