The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near 110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand square feet housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more than nineteen thousand units shipped daily. Job Description:
This position will be primarily responsible for regularly performing warehouse shipping and receiving duties and all duties of the Stock Clerk II, as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager and Director.
Responsibilities:
  • Put pallets of incoming stock in proper bulk storage locations.
  • Receive small orders weighing approximately three pounds from the pickers.
  • Replenish bins with books received from the stock pickers.
  • Moving inventory, bulk or otherwise, between satellite warehouses.
  • Fulfilling outbound orders.

  • Manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, staff, faculty, students, and others.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Identify priorities.
  • Recognize and resolve or refer problems.
  • Work effectively with supervision and as part of a team.
  • Use or learn a range of position-related software applications.
  • Forklift experience and permit certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with material handling equipment required.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
  • Ability to type preferred.
  • Ability to read and calculate simple mathematical problems required.
  • Stockroom/receiving experience preferred.
  • Other warehouse functions as instructed, dusting/cleaning, sweeping, moving stock and packing materials.
Additional Responsibilities
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Experience:
  • Stockroom and receiving experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience and permit certification preferred.
  • Material Handling equipment experience required.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Ability to obtain permit certification within probationary period.
  • Ability to work at height in material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with CRT terminal preferred.
  • Ability to read and calculate simple mathematical problems required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Warehouse environment.
  • Exposure to moving machinery.
  • Exposure to heights.
  • High dust, dirt environment.
  • High noise environment.
Pay Range:
  • $17.36 - $20.06
