The University of Denver seeks a strategic thinker and a collaborative team member who will build relationships across the University, is trustworthy and approachable, and strives to serve as a valued resource to the entire community. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Operations and Strategy Implementation, the AVC will be expected to bring a strong working knowledge of the current and emerging regulatory environment in higher education, as well as national issues and trends as they relate to equal opportunity and Title IX regulations. In addition to bringing procedural acumen on equal opportunity and Title IX requirements, as well as strong investigatory experience, this individual will bring strong management and leadership skills to the role. The AVC will bring a demonstrated record of developing and supporting team members as well as working effectively across constituencies of students, faculty, staff, and senior leadership in higher education. They will be a highly relational leader with expertise in organization and analysis, communication, and collaboration. The AVC for EOIX will serve as a thought partner to senior leadership in direct support of DU’s mission.

Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Operations and Strategy Implementation, the AVC for EOIX will provide executive leadership, oversight, and coordination of the University's civil rights compliance and will serve as the University's designated Title IX officer. The AVC for EOIX will supervise and coordinate the outreach and response and the prompt and equitable investigation and resolution of reports alleging discrimination, harassment, and gender-based violence and / or retaliation according to University policies and procedures. The AVC for EOIX oversees DU’s implementation of the recommendations from its recent inquiries. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing the process for ADA accommodations, consultation and collaboration regarding equal opportunity / affirmative action and Clery Act compliance, and reporting analysis.

The AVC for EOIX will have the opportunity to lead in the following areas : general institutional support, equal opportunity and affirmative action, Title IX, accommodations, Clery Act, and reporting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and experiences :

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of and experience with nondiscrimination laws (including Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, VAWA, ADA, ADEA) and compliance regulations specific to higher education, including the Clery Act and FERPA
  • Extensive knowledge of gender-based violence dynamics, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, and of trauma-informed investigation practices
  • Demonstrated ability to determine and apply the appropriate legal standards in assessing and investigating allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • Extensive experience conducting investigations of complaints alleging discrimination / harassment and gender-based violence, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking (Investigatory experience must include matters involving students and employees)
  • Extensive experience in Title IX, equity, equal opportunity, and all forms of civil rights compliance and programming, including education, prevention, training, policy and practice development and administration, supportive measures, accommodations, investigations, and resolutions related to discrimination and harassment

A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 or more years of progressive leadership and management is required. An advanced degree, with Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school strongly preferred.

Salary Range :

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $215,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
