About the Role: The Director of Insurance and Claims Management (ICM) will facilitate all property, liability, auto, and workers’ compensation insurance products for the university. This role involves overseeing the comprehensive insurance coverage of UGA’s substantial assets and acting as the primary liaison between UGA and the Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS). The Director will manage a team, supervise staff members, and ensure seamless campus and statewide technical programs and efficient handling of insurance claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage various insurance coverages, including auto physical damage, building and contents, fidelity bond, special property/all risk, state tort, general liability, and worker’s compensation.
- Act as the principal point of contact between UGA and DOAS for insurance matters.
- Strategize and oversee responses to all UGA insurance-related claims, ensuring efficient and effective resolutions.
- Monitor the injury reporting system to identify incidents requiring risk mitigation strategies.
- Manage a team and supervise staff responsible for campus and statewide technical programs and insurance claims handling.
- Serve as the primary liaison between UGA, various university departments, and DOAS on insurance-related matters.
- Oversee the department’s on-site emergency responses, necessitating 24/7 availability for emergency situations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certification or license in Risk Management and/or Insurance and Claims.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in higher education insurance, claims, and risk management.
- Experience working with the state Department of Administrative Services (DOAS).
- High-level, complex project management experience with the ability to collaborate with multiple partners.
- Proven track record of managing large, complex projects and programs requiring collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced, diverse, and dynamic work environment.
- Extensive knowledge in the administration of insurance coverage and claims processing.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize assignments and deadlines.
