What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Adjunct Instructor position at The University of Iowa?
The department of Accounting in the Tippie College of Business is accepting applications for a 25% time Adjunct Instructor (FA14). Position(s) are temporary and do not include benefits.
Faculty will be responsible for teaching two sections of undergraduate accounting for Spring 2025 academic session using a developed curriculum. Faculty will instruct students in using Excel and Microsoft PowerBI. Faculty will hold office hours and staff help labs in coordination with other instructors. Spring classes begin on January 21, 2025 and end on May 16, 2025. Instructor obligations regarding responsibility for course preparation and submission of final grades begin on January 16, 2025 and end on May 16, 2025.
Successful applicants need to be available to teach courses Monday through Friday. Some responsibilities may be in the evening.
Key areas of responsibility
- Provide primary instruction in a required undergraduate core course
- Follow an established course curriculum with the expectation that development of own course material will be done as needed.
- Hold weekly office hours and staff 2 hours of help lab each week; respond to UI and student course-related e-mails within 48 hours during the business week; attend weekly meetings with course director; and fulfill university obligations for all instructors (e.g., FERPA training and credential check) as required.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Appropriate background checks (e.g. criminal background and credential checks) will be conducted.

Education Requirement
Must have a Master’s degree in Accounting or a CPA or CMA and related experience (minimum 5 years).
Required Qualifications
- At least two semester experience teaching undergraduate accounting courses.
- At least six months accounting work experience.
- Experience teaching students to analyze data in Excel and Power BI.
- Experience with Canvas platform.
Desired Qualifications
At least two semester experience teaching managerial accounting.
