What are the responsibilities and job description for the Department of Neurology - Research Assistant position at The University of Iowa?
The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to support neuroscience research with Dr. George Richerson and Dr. Frida Teran-Garza. This position will conduct experiments and perform procedures on lab animals, as well as collect, enter, and analyze data.
Job Duties Include:
- Performing mouse and rat surgeries, transcardiac perfusions, immunohistochemistry, physiological recordings, and slide/microscope work.
- Assisting with general lab cleaning, organization, and inventory.
- Performing data entry computer analysis and graphical data display, and preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.
- Other duties as assigned.
Paygrade: 3A - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans
Percent of Time: 100%
This position has an specified term of 12 months. An extension may be considered after the initial 12 months, based on funding availability and performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Neuroscience degree is preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional demeanor and highest ethical standards, and scientific honesty and integrity.
Desired Qualifications
- Background in research, preferably animal research.
- Programming experience using MATLab or equivalent.
