What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst - Safety and Security position at The University of Iowa?
The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Financial Analyst to be responsible for assigned financial activities for the Department of Safety and Security, which include assisting in budget preparation, financial reporting, financial planning, accounting duties, and statistical analysis.
Additional Duties:
- Conduct analysis of financial information to assist with budget preparation.
- Assist with the preparation of accounting reports and other financial information for other units.
- Complete basic and complex recurring reconciliations and reporting following pre-established processes.
- Gather information for submittal and respond to benchmark surveys or questionnaires required by the University, government, or other agencies.
- Collaborate with hospital departments to enhance the delivery of administrative services.
- May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision for staff.
- Perform both basic and limited analysis following pre-established processes and some complex and nonroutine financial and statistical analyses.
- Use moderate knowledge of financial systems. Assist in the development of financial proformas for financial planning.
- Transaction processing is minimal but may result from analytical work.
- May contribute to implementation of policies and procedures. May perform external reporting requiring compliance with reporting standards.

Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Information Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of experience and demonstrated ability using databases, queries, Excel, and reporting tools for report generation and analysis
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of University accounting policy, procedure, and systems
- Knowledge of accounting and budgeting tools including: Peoplesoft, StrataJazz, GL Reporter, and Iowa Electronic Financial Reports (EFR)
