What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Training Specialist - CDD (Hybrid w/in IA) position at The University of Iowa?
This position will be responsible for coordinating collaborative projects to expand and sustain behavioral health prevention efforts across the state. The Prevention Training Specialist will work as a team member and lead prevention related activities for the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health (CEBH) housed within the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD). Responsibilities include facilitating prevention trainings; coordinating training initiatives; providing technical assistance; developing supplemental training materials; and conducting process improvement and evaluate instructional functions. Experience in curriculum development and/or the development of online training modules is highly desired.
This is a specified term position through 8/31/2025 with strong likelihood of renewed funding.
This position is eligible for a combination of remote work and in-person (hybrid) work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
- Assist agencies providing behavioral health prevention practices in identifying their ongoing training needs regarding developing and sustaining prevention practices.
- Develop or assist in the development of on-demand training courses that align with prevention best practices.
- Collaborate with multiple subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
- Meet with agency leaders to discuss progress on practice implementation and help solve problems.
- Conduct research and policy analysis to best inform prevention practices align with the most up-to-date information and best practices.
- Assist in providing additional prevention trainings as necessary.
- Serve as a liaison for CEBH with project partners and stakeholders and promote collaborative working relationships.
- Provide as needed technical assistance to behavioral health prevention agencies across the state.
- Maintain a catalog of on-demand courses relevant to prevention practices and activities.
- Conduct practice evaluation and quality improvement processes.
- Manage data collection, management, and analyses processes.
- May provide functional supervision to staff as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (social services, education, health field, psychology, public health or related human services field), or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience developing training curriculum and/or instructional design.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and lead work teams.
- Excellent written communication skills and experience writing technical documents.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines.
- Demonstrated competency and experience using Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule when required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with program evaluation and process improvement functions.
- Experience that demonstrates knowledge of behavioral health prevention activities, including knowledge that demonstrates current best practice.
