What are the responsibilities and job description for the PRN Patient Care Technician position at The University of Iowa?
University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus is seeking a PRN Patient Care Technician. PRN Patient Care Technicians are required to work 24 hours per month. Under direct supervision, assists the members of the nursing team in provision of multiple types of patient care in in-patient and out-patient care areas. Their work requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures used in delivering patient care.
Characteristic Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation of patients for surgery
- Hold retractors for orthopedic total joint procedures
- Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients.
- Turn, position and ambulate patients.
- Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing.
- Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
- Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
- Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (i.e., dressing changes).
- Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit.
- Set up rooms for patient admission.
- Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair.
- Transport equipment, specimens and supplies.
- Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
- Perform basic CPR as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous UIHC experience, Patient Care Technician experience, or Nursing Assistant experience is preferred
