Position Summary / Career Interest :
The Diabetes Educator educates patients with diabetes on meal planning and general diabetes self-management education. They participate in the development and implementation of new / current nutrition and education programs. The Diabetes Educator assists in maintaining ADA accreditation and continuous quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Be available in clinic most days of the week for additional one-on-one teaching as needed (e.g., instruction on insulin pen use, glucometers, insulin pump)
- Conduct DSME and / or nutrition clinics 4 days per week
- Coordinate, manage, and teach group diabetes education class
- Coordinate / implement other external events as appropriate
- Create and implement an annual Diabetes Day event Create and implement CQI projects (a requirement of ADA recognition)
- Assist the Education Coordinator with maintaining ADA recognition Help with coordination and teaching of other classes (e.g., Managing Diabetes and Pump Preview)
- Helps maintain ADA recognition and keep up to date Work closely with the administrative staff on scheduling and other matters Work with vendors for samples and updates
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
