The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a dedicated Clinician Scientist Onco-Psychologist to join a dynamic team of physicians, psychologists, and allied health professionals. The ideal candidate for this full-time position will be a mid-career or senior academic clinician scientist (Associate Professor or Professor) with demonstrated interest in research and behavioral interventions.

This psychologist position offers the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC) and the Center for Survivorship and Patient-Oriented Research (CSPOR). The role will primarily focus on research, with at least 75% of the effort dedicated to clinical and translational research. The remaining time will be allocated to clinical care and educational activities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical care, a strong track record of innovative and productive research, to include leading the development of multidisciplinary, grant-funded behavioral interventions targeting cancer survivors and caregivers, as well as potential or proven success in securing extramural funding, and a passion for graduate and medical education.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Lead and support a research program to attract funding and establish expertise in onco-psychology and cancer survivorship.
  • Develop collaborative and independent research initiatives aligned with the missions of the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and secure extramural funding for these efforts.
  • Publish research findings and present them at local, national, and international forums.
  • Contribute to the creation of clinical guidelines, policies, or patents related to onco-psychology and survivorship care.
  • Collaborate effectively with KUMC Research Administration and external research facilities.
  • Provide clinical services that complement the department's teaching mission, including lectures and mentorship for medical students, residents, and psychology trainees.
  • Actively participate in academic and scientific organizations at the local or national level. Additionally, contribute to departmental, School of Medicine / University, or hospital committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications :

  • MD or PhD in a field related to Mental Health
  • Graduate of U.S. accredited program in appropriate graduate field
  • Eligible for licensure in Kansas and Missouri to do clinical work
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • R01-funding or equivalent
  • Post-Doctoral research training
  • Successful grant history
  • Experience interfacing with other medical school and hospital departments
  • Expertise in cancer survivorship, though expertise in other areas of onco-psychology are also welcome.
