Job Description
General Summary
The Director of Business Informatics is responsible for the vision, leadership and strategic direction of the organization’s Business Informatics (BI) functions, including enterprise business reporting, strategic and ad-hoc analysis, dashboards / scorecards, data discovery and data visualization. This role will be directly responsible for technical development, quality assurance of UMMS’ reporting and data discovery / visualization initiatives. Working with the appropriate UMMS leadership and stakeholder teams, the successful individual will manage processes across projects and ensure stakeholder satisfaction with the deliverables and outcomes of strategic data and BI initiatives. In addition, this individual will leverage data to promote progressive ways of thinking and facilitate alignment of the business intelligence function to UMMS’s strategic priorities and broader clinical and business evolution.
The Director, Business Informatics will also be responsible for leading a team of business intelligence developers and application programmers to provide a sustainable business intelligence asset infrastructure that enables the organization to access, analyze, maintain and leverage the organization’s business data assets in a secure and compliant manner. He / she will also provide leadership in leveraging the enterprise business intelligence technology stack to support the organization’s business performance and operations performance, working across Corporate Shared Services, Finance, Budgeting, and Hospitals. The Director will provide significant guidance around systems such as Lawson, Kronos, Kaufman Hall, etc.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
- Provide technical, functional and project supervision to the BI team.
- Develop close working relationships with business stakeholders to identify functional requirements for BI deliverables.
- Provide guidance to the technical execution of all activities related to data discovery, data visualization, dashboards / scorecards and enterprise reporting. This includes development of new functionality, quality assurance and ongoing production operations.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with clinical and business leaders and provides support for BI functions.
- Works with customers to align and prioritize key technology initiatives, develop resource plans, ensure appropriate sourcing, and create enterprise timelines for delivery.
- Participate in the company’s data governance initiative as needed. Assist in developing, promoting and enforcing data standards and quality in the business intelligence program.
- Develop appropriate technical ability within the BI team; Lead and coach teams to recruit and retain high caliber technical and analytical staff.
- Prioritize department project work and delegate responsibilities effectively.
- Coordinate with analytics talent pools outside of the business intelligence team, facilitate cross training and innovation.
- Facilitate and promote adoption of analytics products, including but not limited to dashboards / scorecards and other descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics toolsets.
- Provide leadership for training opportunities for end-users when it comes to utilization and adoption of analytics tools / products.
- Keeps abreast of newly released analytics products in organization’s major clinical and business systems; develops plans for appropriate testing and feasibility of such products to support the organization’s strategic priorities as well as clinical / business operations.
- Maintains knowledge and expertise of developments and emerging trends in business intelligence technology offerings and determines strategic role of such technology in the organization.
- Collaborate with the Director of Enterprise Data Integration and Solution Architecture, Data Governance leadership and healthcare data scientists in introducing and integrating new analytics / data tools to support strategic, clinical and operational initiatives of the organization.
- Directs the supervision of the Business Intelligence staff to include hiring, work allocation, scheduling, training and professional development, problem resolution, performance evaluation and related supervisory activities.
