This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our new master’s concentration in Open-Source Investigative Reporting, which launches in fall 2025, while also contributing to the work of the Institute for Public Service Reporting housed in the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investigative journalism practices, including expertise in any of the following areas: data journalism and/or visual investigations, and a commitment to teaching the next generation of journalists.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or a related field.
Must have expertise in at least one of the following areas: data journalism, visual investigations, or investigative journalism; experience in more than one area is highly preferred.
Special Conditions
Screening begins April 11 and continues until the position is filled.
Demonstrated professional experience in developing and implementing investigative journalism practices and methodologies.
Proven commitment to teaching excellence and student engagement in both classroom and practical settings.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.

- Developing and teaching advanced courses focused on open-source investigative techniques, data journalism, and visual investigations.
- Leading the new Master of Arts concentration in Open-Source Investigative Reporting.
- Recruiting prospective students to the program each year using connections to professional journalistic organizations.
- Building and maintaining relationships with internship partners in both local, regional and national news outlets.
- Contributing to the Institute for Public Service Reporting by participating in its investigative projects, including collaborative projects with other news organizations, and its community outreach initiatives, all under the direction of the Institute’s director.
- Actively participating in departmental service, curriculum development, and community partnerships focused on enhancing public understanding of investigative journalism.
